The “Valley of Giants” Rainforest Hike and Caribelle Batik Factory Tour
|Come and enjoy the Beautiful island of St. Kitts on this two part excursion of Shopping and Hiking. Firstly visit the Famous Romney Manor, the home of the Caribbelle Batik Factory, with its resplendent terraced gardens that are complete with a 350 year old tree as well as an old slave bell tower. Located in a quaint Sugar Plantation Home, the Romney Manor’s exotic shop of colorful Batik and other unusual items is yours to enjoy for 30 minutes, then later stretch your legs in the enchanting world of the nearby Wingfield River Valley, a place of rare beauty and tranquility, doing a two hour rainforest hike on looped trails that remain pest free year round!|
Your transportation will be provided by specially modified 4×4 Land Rovers, too travel out along the scenic Caribbean Coastline of the island for about 20 minutes, from Basseterre, eventually arriving in the town of Old Road, the site of the first European Settlement on St. Kitts, in 1624.
Here we then turn inland driving for about half a mile to visit the Romneys’ Manor, the home of the Caribbelle Batik Factory, which is located on a bluff overlooking the coast. This intriguing and famous Land Mark has beautiful landscaped gardens surrounding it with breathtaking views overlooking the sea, where you can shop for colorful Batik and enjoy its stunningly beautiful terraced gardens.
Following your stop at the Romneys Manor we would then walk down into the nearby Wingfield River Valley, to hike among the giant trees that tower over the spring fed stream here, our islands richest reservoir of bio diversity, that is part of the Central Forest Reserve National Park.
Initially your hike would take you along the banks of the crystal clear Wingfield River, a flow that receives in excess of 100,000 gallons of spring water a day from a source high in the mountains. After about an hour of hiking the banks of the river, those interested in a more challenging walk, would climb 350 vertical feet to the top of a nearby ridge, where they can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforests with the Wingfield River Valley below, from a birds eye perspective.
