Greg's ranking as number one St. Kitt's attraction is well deserved. Our family ( parents and 17 yr. old & 11 yr. old ) along with another woman did the Atlantic side half day Rainforest hike the last week of July '09. He picked us up at the Marriott and drove us in his open air LandRover into the cane fields/farm to start our hike. We saw wonderful nature and animals. He loves questions and explains everything. He points outs parts of the eco-system I never would have considered! Loved trying all the different fruits at the end of the hike. It was not strenuous and would be fine for younger kids too! Greg is doing what he loves, where he grew up and loves the island and the visitors. We highly recommend!
My family (2 teenage boys, wife & me) took Greg's tour up Mt. Liamuiga on June 14. We were joined by two doctors and a restauranteur (friends of Greg). The hour ride up the lee side of the island went by quickly, and was suprisingly comfortable. After parking at the trailhead, we set off up the mountain. Greg was great at knowing when to offer a rest stop for the adults, while allowing our boys to dash off ahead. Funny how our kids can seemingly sprint up a mountainside, but lack the energy to put their garbage in a garbage can two feet away. Must be the exhilirating Caribbean air. Greg provided a delicious lunch of tuna sandwiches (with hot sauce) and coconut fudge. I'm pretty sure there was more, but I stopped paying attention after I heard "coconut fudge". Greg pointed out all the features of the mountain, volcano, crater, lake etc., and was a super guide. My wife "tweaked" her knee on the way down, and Greg never hurried us, instead he pointed out alternate steps and handholds to facilitate her descent. On return to the trailhead, the fruit & rum punch came out, which was outstanding. To be fair, a glass of iced kerosene would have seemed like heaven. Greg truly loves what he does and this is what makes him an excellent guide.
We Had A Great Time!!!
The pace of the hike was nice and your explanations of the flora and fauna were outstanding. You kept things interesting and fact filled. I also appreciated your discussion toward the end of the hike about sustaining the rain forests of the world by being an informed consumer and patronizing businesses that are "rain forest friendly". Thanks for a wonderful time. I spoke to many friends about our hike and I raved about how good it was. I would highly recommend your hike to anyone visiting the island. Thanks again for a great hike.
